NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal said that he will not appear before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma in the Delhi High Court. Kejriwal made this known in an open letter to Justice Sharma. Kejriwal said that he has lost faith in Sharma's ability to deliver justice. Swarana Kanta Sharma had rejected Kejriwal's plea seeking his withdrawal from the Delhi liquor policy corruption case. Kejriwal alleged that the judge's children were on the central government's panel of lawyers and demanded that she be withdrawn from hearing the case. But the court did not accept this.
With this, Kejriwal wrote an open letter to Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The former Delhi chief minister said that he will adopt the Gandhian method of protest, Satyagraha, and reiterated that neither he nor his lawyer will be present in the court when the case is considered. Kejriwal said that he will not appear in court, as he is sure of not getting justice.
Meanwhile, there is a provision in the case that when the accused is acquitted, he can be summoned to the court at any time for appeal proceedings. In this regard, the accused also signs a bond. If the accused fails to appear in court in violation of this condition under the bond, the court can issue a warrant to produce him. The court will first issue a bailable warrant and then a non-bailable warrant, said advocate Satish Tamta.
