NEW DELHI: Seat belts are mandatory for the driver and front seat occupants during car journeys. Even though the rear seat occupants are also required to wear seat belts, this rule has not yet been made stricter. However, based on the reports coming out now, the central government is planning to tighten this law as well. From April next year, rear-seat passengers will also have to wear seat belts.
It is planned to make this rule mandatory in all 8 seater vehicles. The Centre has decided to introduce new quality standards for seat belts and accessories. Indian standard seat belts and anchors should be installed in the vehicles. The law also stipulates that vehicle manufacturers must ensure this.
Until now, vehicle inspections only checked whether the occupants of the front seats were wearing seat belts. This is being changed. Fine will have to be paid even if the occupants of the back seat break the law. Seatbelts are mandatory in vehicles for safety reasons. Every year the number of accidents and deaths in the country is increasing. The government has decided to implement the new decision in the context of the increasing number of accidental deaths due to not wearing seat belts.
