BHUBANESHWAR: More than 500 people were injured in a stampede-like situation during the annual Rath Yatra at the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Several of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
The incident occurred during the chariot pulling procession from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, located about three kilometres away. Three massive chariots, representing Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, are traditionally used for the journey. The chaos reportedly began as a massive crowd surged forward to pull the chariot of Lord Balabhadra, leading to panic, pushing, and jostling among devotees.
