Odisha Malayali drowns while on vacation in Alappuzha

ALAPPUZHA: A youngster drowned after slipping into the river while fishing with his friends on Saturday. Steve Rajesh (23) from Haripad Chakkar East, died in the tragic incident that took place near Pallipad this morning. The boat ferrying the group capsized amidst heavy rains in the middle of the river. The road connecting the Pallipad was submerged in yesterday’s heavy downpour.

Steve went fishing in a small boat with three friends around 2 am this morning. When the boat capsized, the others swam to safety while Steve was caught in the currents. His friends reached the shore and alarmed the fire force which initiated a search.

The body was found near the Kureethara crematorium this morning. Steve, who lives in Odisha with his family, returned home ten days ago. He was scheduled to return tomorrow. Father - Rajesh Pillai, siblings - Stein Rajesh and Steffy Rajesh.
