NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Cathedral Church of Redemption in Delhi as part of the Christmas celebrations. Modi attended the morning prayer services. The Cathedral Church of Redemption is the headquarters of the Church of North India. The ceremony included prayers, carols, hymns, and a special prayer for the Prime Minister by Delhi Bishop Dr Paul Swaroop.
BJP Kerala State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar and others were with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister also extended Christmas greetings through Twitter. 'May Christmas bring renewed hope, warmth and a shared commitment to kindness. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society,' the Prime Minister said in another post on X.
Meantime, some believers protested in front of the Cathedral Church of Redemption before the Prime Minister's visit. The protest was held on the grounds that the freedom of worship of the believers was being denied in the name of a VIP visit. As part of the Prime Minister's visit, barricades were erected in front of the church and strict security was imposed. Restrictions were also imposed on the entry of believers into the church from the morning. This led to the protests.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar later responded that the restrictions were imposed as part of the Prime Minister's security and apologizes if anyone had any difficulty.
