Popular pro wrestler Rey Mysterio Sr. dies at 66

MEXICO CITY: Popular wrestler Miguel Angel Lopez Diaz, known by his ring name Rey Mysterio Sr. passed away on Saturday. He was 66. The family on Friday night confirmed the death of Miguel Angel Lopez, uncle of world-famous WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr.

Mysterio Sr. rose to fame in the Mexican professional wrestling competition Lucha Libra. Lucha Libra fighters are known for their Ariel stunts and unique face masks. Rey was a champion in tournaments organized by the World Wrestling Association and Lucha Libra AAA Worldwide. His performances in international competitions such as World Championship Wrestling Starcade made him popular across the globe.

The news of Rey's death was first announced by Lucha Libra AAA.
