BENGALURU: Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, serving a life sentence for rape, is now a library clerk in Parappana Agrahara jail. Revanna will be given Rs 522 per day for his work. The job involves distributing books to other prisoners and maintaining records and accounts of books taken.
The salary will be given subject to proper conduct of work. According to prison rules, lifers are required to do some kind of work, and assignments are given based on their skills and willingness. Revanna initially expressed interest in working in the administration department, but the prison authorities transferred him to the library.
Prisoners are required to work three days a week, at least 12 days a month. Last month, Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11 lakh for raping a 47-year-old maid in Mysuru and recording the act and later circulating it. The sexual assault cases against Revanna came to light after obscene videos shot by him went viral before last year's Lok Sabha elections. Revanna was an NDA candidate from Hassan.
