Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj, was one of the most talked-about Malayalam films at the time of its release. The film’s music was composed by Deepak Dev, who faced heavy criticism back then over the soundtrack. Now, the composer has opened up about those controversies in an interview given to a YouTube channel.
“There were some issues regarding the music of Empuraan. During that time, Gopi Sundar put up a social media post claiming to support me. But he never even called me personally, so I don’t take that as real support. In fact, he used his music from Sagar Alias Jacky in that post and added a comment about the controversy,” Deepak Dev said.
“Some people commented that Gopi Sundar should have done the music for Empuraan. To those comments, Gopi replied, saying I was his brother. Honestly, I felt that was an unnecessary post. The union even asked me whether action should be taken against him, but I said no. At that time, Gopi Sundar was already going through many personal issues. I didn’t want to be someone who kicks a man when he’s down. But his way is always to somehow make money out of any situation. Even if the union had sent him a memo, he would have just posted it on social media and turned it into money,” Deepak Dev added.
