NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the removal of stray dogs from educational institutions and bus and railway stations. The apex court has directed to send the dogs to their shelters. The judgement was delivered by a bench led by Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and N V Anjaria.

The court also directed all states and union territories, the National Highway Authority and civic bodies to ensure the removal of stray dogs from national highways, state highways and other roads. The court asked district magistrates to ensure that proper walls or fences are constructed in educational institutions, hospitals and government offices to prevent stray dogs from entering. Regular checks should be carried out to ensure that there are no stray dogs in these places. The court also strictly directed that the captured stray dogs must not be released back to the same place where they were picked up.
