NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is set to extend the electoral roll revision implemented in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections to the entire country. The process of implementing the electoral roll revision will reportedly begin in October. The proposal for the revision of the electoral roll was approved in a meeting of the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states and Union Territories on Wednesday. The Special Intensive Revision-SIR is likely to be announced before the Bihar elections are over.
Officials assured during a meeting that the basic details of the electoral roll revision will be completed, and the process will begin in October. The meeting, which lasted for more than three and a half hours, also discussed preparations for the implementation of the SIR. The Election Commission has also directed the state CEOs to prepare a list of documents that can be used to verify the validity of voters. This list will be based on certificates that are commonly accepted and easily available in each area.
