BHUBANESWAR: Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s brother and sister-in-law were involved in a speedboat accident at sea. Both fell into the water after the boat overturned, but were rescued by lifeguards. The incident took place on Sunday in Puri Beach in Odisha.

Snehasish Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly’s brother, and his wife Arpita Ganguly were the ones involved in the mishap. The couple had arrived in Puri for a vacation. According to reports, they were taken out to sea on the boat despite rough conditions. Strong waves caused the boat to capsize, throwing them into the water. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media.

Arpita Ganguly, who survived the accident, alleged that the boat overturned because it was underloaded.

"The sea was rough. Driven by greed, they operated the boat with only four passengers when it was meant for ten. It was the last boat of the day going into the sea. We had raised concerns about the weather, but the operators reassured us, saying that there was nothing to worry about. As soon as we went into the sea, a large wave hit the boat and overturned it. If the lifeguards hadn't arrived in time, we wouldn't have survived. I'm still in shock from the experience. I've never gone through anything like this before. If there had been more people on the boat, it might not have overturned," she said.
