NEW DELHI: The use of artificial intelligence is increasing day by day. Today, there are very few sectors where AI is not being used. However, like many other technologies, AI is often misused on social media for harmful purposes rather than for good. Now, the central government has made a strong intervention against this.

The government has imposed tough restrictions on the spread of fake news and obscene content created using AI. Social media platforms such as YouTube and X have been ordered to remove illegal content generated through AI within three hours of it being reported. The Ministry of Electronics and IT, which amended the relevant rules, announced that the new regulation will come into effect from February 20.

The new rules also state that AI-generated videos and images must be clearly labelled, as many people are being misled by artificially created content. If AI-generated images or videos containing nudity or obscene material are found, the platforms must remove them within two hours, according to the order.
