CHENNAI: The Income Tax Department has launched raids at the residence of Tamil actor Arya, along with several business establishments reportedly linked to him. The inspections are underway at multiple 'Sea Shell' restaurants across Chennai, which are believed to be under the actor's ownership. The authorities said that the raids are being conducted based on allegations of tax evasion and that complete details can be disclosed only after the completion of the raids.
Arya is said to own restaurants in areas including Velachery, Kottivakkam, Kilpauk, and Anna Nagar in Chennai. The action by the Income Tax Department follows accusations that Arya accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and failed to pay due taxes. Meanwhile, Arya has responded by claiming that he does not own the Sea Shell restaurants under inspection.
