AGARTALA: In an unexpected move, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb resigned from his post on Saturday. Biplab Kumar Dev said that he had submitted his resignation to the Governor. Sources said that the BJP central leadership had asked him to resign from the post of CM. Biplab Kumar Deb had met the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi yesterday. He tendered his resignation soon after this.
The BJP legislative party will meet today and elect a new chief minister. Sources said that a section of MLAs had turned against Biplab Kumar Deb. The Congress had also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister citing the social situation in the state. The BJP has sent two observers to Tripura to decide on a new chief minister.
