ALAPPUZHA: In a tragic incident, two people were killed after a motorbike collided with a lorry near Vandanam on the national highway. The deceased are Akhil Krishna (22), a native of Arthunkal, and Achu S Das (20), a native of Cherthala. The accident occurred around 12 midnight yesterday. The two victims were neighbours and close friends. Achu was a nursing student in Marthandam, while Akhil Krishna had recently completed his ITI studies.

Akhil was returning home after picking up Achu from the railway station, as she had arrived from Marthandam. While travelling from Kayamkulam to Cherthala, their bike collided with a lorry while turning from the national highway onto a service road at Vandanam.

Achu was thrown onto the road during the impact, and the rear wheels of the lorry ran over her, causing her death on the spot. Akhil, who was seriously injured, was rushed to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital, but his life could not be saved. The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of Vandanam Medical College Hospital. Punnapra Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
