Udayanidhi Stalin visits Karur, minister breaks down seeing bodies

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu is in shock after a campaign rally organized by TVK chief and Tamil superstar Vijay, ended in a major tragedy. Chief Minister M K Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK ministers and others visited the victims of the stampede in the hospital. Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi broke down after seeing the bodies of the children.

The minister became emotional during his visit to the Karur Government Medical College. Former minister V Senthil Balaji also accompanied him. The footage of the minister breaking down is being widely circulated on social media.

A political rally organized by Vijay in Tamil Nadu ended in a major tragedy. 39 people died in the stampede that broke out in Karur. The rally was attended by tens of thousands including children and women. 111 of the injured are undergoing treatment in hospitals. The condition of 10 is very serious. The death toll is likely to rise further. All the bodies have been identified. The bodies of 32 people have been released.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the dead. The accident occurred at around 8 pm last night. The government has announced a judicial inquiry into the incident. The DGP said that a case has been registered. The Karur West TVK secretary has been named as an accused.
