CHENNAI: Actor Vijay, the state president of TVK, may contest from the Perambur constituency in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The seat was won by the DMK in 2021 with a margin of 54,976 votes. A resolution demanding this was passed at a TVK meeting held in Chennai today. The resolution was presented by TVK Election Campaign Management Secretary Aadhav Arjun while addressing the meeting. Party General Secretary N. Anand said the leadership would be informed about the cadres’ request.
He said the party fully supports the resolution presented by Aadhav and that the wishes of the cadres will be conveyed to Vijay. Aadhav also stated that the party leadership believes in contesting from areas that face higher poverty and greater public needs. He added that North Chennai reflects such conditions and that Vijay prioritises contesting from constituencies in North Chennai such as Perambur, Kolathur and RK Nagar.
He further said that Vijay decided to step into the political arena of North Chennai after attacks on TVK workers who were campaigning peacefully in the Harbour constituency. He added that the party is campaigning in the city to challenge the DMK’s claim that Chennai is its political stronghold, and said that from now on, Chennai will belong to TVK.
