NEW DELHI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay, who left acting to enter active politics, will contest from Madurai East in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The announcement was made at the second state conference of TVK held in Madurai on Thursday.
Vijay's speech was a scathing attack on the ruling DMK. Vijay said that he would do everything to make DMK leaders sit at home for the next five years.
"A lion knows how to live in a crowd as well as to live alone. He is different. A lion goes out to hunt, but not for fun," Vijay added.
Vijay formed TVK in 2024 as an alternative to the DMK and the opposition AIADMK, but chose only the ruling DMK as its main opponent.
"Ideologically, our only enemy is the BJP. Politically, it is the DMK. TVK is not a party started for political gains.
TVK is not just a passing fancy in Tamil Nadu politics and has a clear objective. The party is the voice of Tamil Nadu. The party is not rooted in politics but in ideology. This is not just a speech for publicity; it is a warning to those in power. We have come for dominance. Crores are joining us in the mighty fight. In 2026, it is TVK vs DMK. “ Vijay added.
