MUMBAI: A software engineer was arrested on suspicion of having links with Al-Qaeda. Subair Hangarkar, an engineer, was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad from Kondhwa in Pune. Subair was arrested on charges of persuading youngsters to join terrorist groups.

The court remanded Subair in police custody till November 4. The police told the court that he was involved in anti-national activities and planning terrorist attacks in Maharashtra and other cities. The police said that several documents and items believed to have been used to attract youth to terrorism were recovered from the accused.

On October 27, four people were taken into custody by the police from the Chennai Express at the Pune railway station. Electronic devices and other documents were also seized during raids conducted at various places in Pune on October 9. These documents indicate the presence of terrorists in the area.

The engineer's arrest comes after the arrest of Mohammad Adnan Khan (19) from Delhi's Sadiq Nagar and Adnan Khan (20) from Bhopal in connection with a case related to the Islamic State. The arrests indicate that the online wing of the IS is active in these parts of India.
