'Youth revolution is only way'; TVK general secretary calls for Nepal model protest

CHENNAI: After the Karur tragedy, TVK election campaign management general secretary Aadhav Arjuna called for a Nepal model youth revolution. He called for a revolution on social media by criticizing the police. After his call for riots drew widespread criticism, there is a demand for Arjun's arrest.

'If walking on the roads leads to beatings and posting a comment on social media leads to arrest, then when the police have become servants of the ruling front like this, the only way to restore order is through a youth revolution. Just as youth and Gen Z generation came together to create a revolution against the authorities in Sri Lanka and Nepal, the youth will rise here too. That will lay the foundation for a change of government and an end to state terrorism,' Arjun wrote on X. However, he withdrew the post after protests erupted. Later, DMK workers and others came forward demanding action against him.

TVK Karur district secretary Mathiyazhakan was arrested yesterday in connection with the Karur tragedy that claimed the lives of 41. A case has been registered against the party's state general secretary Bussy Anand and joint secretary C T Nirmal Kumar. Reports are also emerging that TVK leader and Karur native Paun Raj has been taken into custody. Paun Raj signed the application seeking permission for TVK's programme.
