CHENNAI: A youth of Tamil Nadu stabbed a Malayali student to death for rejecting his love proposal. The incident happened Monday morning at Vadukapalayam in Pollachi. The dead is Ashvika (19), daughter of Kannan residing in Ponmuthu Nagar. Soon after committing the crime, the youth identified as Praveen Kumar of Udumalpet Road in Anna Nagar, surrendered at the police station. Praveen is an employee of a private money lending firm in Anna Malayar Nagar. His arrest has been recorded.
Ashvika was a second-year BSc Computer Science student at a private college in Coimbatore. The accused barged into her house when her parents were not at home and committed the murder. Her sister had also gone to the school. Hearing the girl screaming, the neighbours rushed her to the hospital, but could not save her life. The accused, who fled from the spot, surrendered at the West police station.
The accused and his family had lived near the girl's house for five years. During this time, he got acquainted with her. He and his family had shifted to Anna Nagar a year ago. Her relatives said Praveen used to call and annoy her. Police said the youth had proposed to her but she had rejected his love proposal.
The girl had posted her pictures on social media recently and this provoked him. Seeing this, the accused came to her house and had a verbal dispute with her. He then attacked Ashvika with a penknife he had in his hand, went to the kitchen, took a knife and stabbed her on her neck and chest.
