NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has quashed the compassionate appointment of the son of former Chengannur MLA K K Ramachandran Nair. The bench led by Chief Justice considered the plea. The court asked how an MLA’s son be given an appointment. The order also stated that the salary received by the MLA's son should not be recovered.

The state cabinet meet decided to specially appoint R Prasanth, son of late former MLA K K Ramachandran Nair, as assistant engineer in the Public Works Department. However, the high court quashed the appointment, citing that it was a violation of Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution. The state government had filed a plea in the Supreme Court against this. This has now been rejected by the Supreme Court.
