17-year-old girl gives birth in Kannur; husband arrested in POCSO case

KANNUR: Police have arrested a 34-year-old man over the incident where his 17-year-old wife gave birth in Pappinisseri in Kannur. The arrested person is a Salem native living in Pappinisseri. The Valapattanam police have charged him under the POCSO Act.

According to police reports, the couple claimed they were married in a traditional ceremony held in Salem, attended by their relatives. After the wedding, they moved to Pappinisseri. The minor gave birth at Kannur Medical College Hospital, where she informed the hospital staff that she was 17 years old. Hospital authorities immediately alerted the police, following which a case was registered based on their complaint. The man was arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
