Absconding youth accused of wife’s murder in Pathanamthitta held after four days

PATHANAMTHITTA: A youth, who was absconding after stabbing his wife to death in Pathanamthitta, has been held. The dead is Shyama alias Sharimol (35) of Pullad. Her husband Aji alias Jayakumar was arrested by special branch officers from Thiruvalla city in the incident.


Two sustained serious injuries in the attack. Shyama's father Shashi and his sister Radhamani were injured and are undergoing treatment. The incident happened on the night of August 2 at Alumthara in Pullad, Pathanamthitta.


It is believed that Aji suspected Shyama of infidelity and this resulted in the murder. He was drunk at the time of the attack. Shyama, her father, Aji and their children lived in the house at Alumthara.


The locals said the couple used to fight regularly. On the day of the incident, he stabbed her with a knife after a fight. Shashi was also attacked when he tried to intervene. Radhamani lived in the house next door. She, who came rushing after hearing the screams, was also attacked.


Aji fled from the spot after the attack. The three injured were taken to Kottayam Medical College that night. Shyama died the next morning. Shashi was stabbed on his chest. His injuries are serious. Aji's house is at Kaviyoor. He had been living in Shyama's house for some time. He often created problems after getting drunk. He was earlier subjected to counselling following the intervention of police. The couple has three daughters.
