THRISSUR: Health Minister Veena George said that the government is ensuring the best possible treatment for those injured in the Thrissur fireworks accident. She spoke to the media after a high-level review meeting held at the Thrissur Medical College.
The meeting, led by ministers, was attended by the medical college principal, superintendent, District Programme Manager (DPM), district collector, and district police chief. The minister said that all necessary medical facilities have been arranged at the Medical College for the injured.
"Currently, 13 people are undergoing treatment following the accident. Of them, 10 are in the ICU. Five of those in the ICU have suffered severe burn injuries. Among them, two are in critical condition and have been shifted to ventilator support. The remaining five have comparatively minor injuries but are being kept in the ICU for expert observation," the minister said.
"So far, seven bodies and nine body parts have been brought to the hospital from the accident site. Out of the bodies received, four have been identified. The post-mortem of two of the deceased has been completed, and steps are being taken to hand them over to their relatives," she said.
"Unidentified body parts will be examined scientifically. Instructions have been given to collect DNA samples for identification. All post-mortem procedures will be completed quickly following proper protocols," the minister added.
