Attempt to extort money by pledging fake ornaments; gold pawnshop owners with complaints of being cheated of lakhs

VENJARAMOODU: A man was arrested in the case of scamming money by pawning fake ornaments. The court remanded Naushad (47) of Peringammala Panangode Thumbanoor Maruthammood house in the case. The owner, who was suspicious of the jewellery given by Naushad who went to a gold pawn shop in Vayyett to pawn the jewellery, informed the Venjaramood police. Following this the police came and took him into custody.

After knowing that Naushad was in custody, many other establishment owners approached the police with complaints. An investigation led by circle inspector Anoop Krishna and sub-inspector S Shan revealed that Naushad had extorted Rs 7 lakh from various institutions. The accused was produced in court and remanded.
