Cocaine case including Shine Tom Chacko; actor not tested for consumption of drugs, court enumerates lapses

KOCHI: The court enumerated the lapses that happened in the police investigation over the cocaine case involving actor Shine Tom Chacko. The court also clarified that the police failed to complete the investigation by following the procedures. The court added that the police itself denied the claim that the components of the cocaine seized from the actor's flat in Kadavanthra were not separated and examined and that the police itself denied the claim that it had received confidential information.

‘The items found by the police were not recorded in the search memo. The accused were examined by a gazetted officer, who was not on duty. The female accused were not examined by a female police officer. The police did not examine whether the five accused, including Shine Tom Chacko, used cocaine. The investigation team does not remember who opened the flat where the actor was and who entered first. Cocaine hydrochloride was seized. The forensic science lab did not properly separate the components including chloride and examine them,' observed the court.

The police case is that Shine Tom Chacko and four models used drugs. However, the police have not been able to prove this scientifically. The police record shows that seven grams of cocaine were seized from them. However, the court found that the police had completely failed to prove that it was seized from the accused. The actor was acquitted in the case in February this year.
