THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court has awarded life imprisonment to Priyaranjan of Poovachal found guilty in the case of killing a class 10 student by hitting him with a car for questioning the act of urinating near the premises of a temple. The victim is Adisekhar (15), son of Arun Kumar and Deepa of Poovachal. The sentence was pronounced by the Thiruvananthapuram Sixth Additional Sessions Court. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him.

Adisekhar was fatally mowed down on August 30, 2023. His act was captured on the CCTV camera of the Pulincode temple. The grudge stemming from Adisekhar’s innocent question, 'Uncle…is it right to urinate here?' led to the cold-blooded murder.

The incident occurred when Adisekhar was returning home after playing with his friends. The visuals showed Priyaranjan deliberately knocking down Adishekhar and running him over with his electric car (KL 19 N 6957).

The police investigation proved that the accused Priyaranjan is an alcoholic and was drunk at the time of the incident, and that it was a pre-planned murder. The case, which was initially registered as an accidental death, was treated as a homicide after the boy’s family raised suspicion. Priyaranjan, who had fled to Tamil Nadu after the incident, was arrested from Kanyakumari.
