THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CCTV footage becoming crucial evidence in the murder case of quarry owner S Deepu (44), a native of Karamana. Deepu's body was found with his throat slit in a car parked on the roadside. The police got the CCTV footage of a person getting out of this car. The investigation team suspects that he may be the murderer. There is also an indication that this is a differently-abled person.
10 lakh rupees in Deepu's car is also missing. The police suspect that the murder was committed by someone who knew that Deepu had so much money in his hand. Kanyakumari SP Sundaravadanam had earlier announced that the accused would be arrested soon.
Four special teams under the leadership of DySP Thakkala have been formed to investigate. Two teams are investigating in Thiruvananthapuram. Investigators have checked with whom Deepu has been talking on the phone for the past few days. Suspects are being detained and interrogated.
Deepu left home around 7:30 last night saying he was going to Coimbatore. He had also told the family that two people from Neyyatinkara and Takkala would accompany him. However, according to the CCTV footage, only one person got out of the vehicle.
The incident happened early Tuesday morning on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari National Highway near Kaliyakkavilai Padamthalumoodu petrol pump on the Tamil Nadu border. The body was on the driver's seat of the Mahendra SUV owned by Deepu with the seat belt. 90 percent of his neck was found severed. There were no other injuries on his body. The vehicle was parked on the roadside. Therefore, the police believe that the incident happened while he was waiting for someone. The body was found by the patrolling team after seeing the vehicle with parking lights on. The police suspect that a person close to Deepu is behind the murder. The officials are of the preliminary conclusion that the murder occurred during robbery. The body is now in Asaripallam Medical College Hospital in Nagercoil.
Deepu was a well-known businessman. There were also minor financial disputes in connection with this. The police are investigating this also. Relatives say that two days ago Deepu received a phone call and had an argument with the caller. However, they do not know who called.
