Elathur missing case; Skeletal remains found in marshy land confirmed to be that of Vijil

KOZHIKODE: DNA tests have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in the marshy land in Sarovaram Bio Park in the Elathur missing case are that of K T Vigil. The police had found the pants and belt of Vijil of Velathippadikal in Chungam along with the stones used to weigh down the body. 53 skeletal remains excluding the skull, were recovered from a depth of two and a half meters from the swamp.

K K Nikhil of Vazhathi Salaruthi Kulangarakandi Meethal and Deepesh of Vengeri, arrested, were brought to the spot of the incident and a search was conducted. During the search, a leather shoe believed to be Vigil's and his bike, which the accused had hidden six years ago, were found.

Vigil, son of Vijayan of West Hill Chungam went missing on March 24, 2019. The Elathur police conducted an investigation on the complaint of his relatives, but could not find him. When the case was investigated again in April this year, the accused gave their statements that Vigil died while consuming brown sugar and that his body was dumped in the marshy land. The Elathur police arrested the accused on charges of murder and destruction of evidence. Another accused, Ranjith, who was absconding, was arrested in Telangana by the police.
