Excise seizes Rs 1.5 crore hawala money from passenger in Volvo bus

KALPETTA: Hawala money worth Rs 1.5 crore was seized from a youth travelling in a Karnataka RTC bus. The incident happened at Meenangadi in Wayanad. The excise seized the hawala money from Abdul Razak of Vallikkunnu in Malappuram Tirurangadi during a vehicle search on the Mysuru-Kozhikode National Highway at 3 am today. He was travelling in a Karnataka RTC Volvo sleeper bus from Bengaluru to Kozhikode.

In the search conducted by the excise, Rs 1.36 crore smuggled without documents was seized. The vehicle inspection was conducted by a team led by Sultan Bathery excise circle inspector Sunil and excise range inspector Baburaj under the supervision of the Wayanad deputy excise commissioner. The seized money will be handed over to the income tax department for further action, informed Wayanad deputy excise commissioner A J Shaji.
