PATHANAMTHITTA: Dr Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, former Metropolitan of the Niranam Diocese of the Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that he lost Rs 15 lakhs in an online fraud. In his complaint, Dr Geevarghese Mar Coorilos stated that was duped of Rs 15,01,186 through an online fraud.

In his complaint, Coorilos stated that on August 2, he received a video call from a man named Naresh Goel, who introduced himself as a CBI officer. During the conversation, Naresh Goel accused Coorilos of being involved in a money laundering case registered in Mumbai. The fraudster even threatened the former metropolitan by showing him some forged documents. He then asked Coorilos to pay a fine in order to prevent legal action against him. After collecting the details of Coorilos's private bank account, the fraudster withdrew 15 lakhs from his account in two different days.

Geevarghese Mar Coorilos's bank account was frozen by the cyber police team based on his complaint. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos has not openly responded about the incident.
