KANNUR: The police said the 12-year-old girl, who killed her father’s niece, had an intense hatred towards the four-month-old baby. She had earlier destroyed the baby’s vaccination records.

‘The girl came back after going to the washroom. She then took the baby and threw her into the well. The child's mental state is fine. She told police that she committed the crime over fear of losing love. She is repeatedly saying this.

The girl belongs to a broken family. Her parents separated two years ago. Her father died three months ago. The girl had earlier destroyed the vaccination records of the baby.
There were five people in that house. One of them died. It was understood that one of the remaining four was the killer. The investigation that started from that led to this confession,' Valapattanam SHO Sumesh told a media.

The girl is presently in a shelter home in Thalassery. She will be produced before the child welfare committee today. She will later be shifted to an observation home in Kozhikode.

The dead is Yasika, daughter of Muthu and Akkamma of Tamil Nadu, staying in a rented house at Parakkal, Pappinissery in Kannur. The baby, who was sleeping with her parents, went missing around midnight on Monday. The girl woke up the baby’s parents and informed them about the missing. The locals searched and then filed a complaint with the police. The baby was later found in the well and was taken to the hospital but died. The 12-year-old girl is the daughter of Muthu's elder brother. The child studied in Tamil Nadu till the seventh standard.
