Husband abroad, Praveena living with in-laws; Jijesh sets Ajeesh's wife on fire and commits suicide attempt

KANNUR: A man entered a house in Mayyil Kuttiattoor and set a woman on fire by pouring petrol on her. Praveena (39), the wife of Uruvachal native Ajeesh, was attacked. The attacker, Peruvalathuparamba native Jijesh (40), also suffered burns. Both are undergoing treatment at the Pariyaram Kannur Medical College Hospital. The medical college authorities said that the woman's condition is very serious.

The incident took place at around 2 pm yesterday in the rented house where Ajeesh's father Achuthan, mother Susheela, wife Praveena and daughter Sivada live. Ajeesh is abroad. Jijesh entered the house after asking Achuthan, who was sitting in front of the house, for water and went into the kitchen and set Praveena on fire.

The two were found burnt in the kitchen work area by neighbours who came running, hearing the screams. It is reported that Jijesh tried to commit suicide after setting Praveena on fire. Locals took both of them to the hospital. An investigation was launched under the leadership of the Kannur ACP. The police received indications that personal enmity was behind the attack.
