KOLLAM: Police arrested a youngster for brutally killing a man who thwarted his suicide attempt. Ambadi (20), a native of Laksham Veedu, was arrested. Shrimp farmer Suresh (42) died in the incident.

Ambadi, who was drunk and attempted suicide by sleeping on a railway track, was brought home by Suresh after much persuasion. Ambadi is accused in several criminal cases. On Friday evening, Ambadi was chased away by the locals after causing trouble during the festival at the Kallummootil Temple in Kollam.

Ambadi later gave suicide threats, consumed large amounts of alcohol and headed straight to the railway track. The locals, including Suresh, then persuaded the youngster and made him give up the suicide plan. Suresh then accompanied Ambadi to his house. Immediately after Suresh left the house, Ambadi took a knife from his kitchen, ran out of the house and stabbed Suresh.

Locals came to know about the incident and rushed Suresh to a private hospital in Sasthamkotta, but his life could not be saved. The police, under the leadership of Sasthamkotta DYSP and East Kallada SHO, shifted the body to Shastamkota Taluk Hospital.

Suresh leaves behind his mother, Maniamma.
