MALAPPURAM: A former general manager has been arrested in connection with the suicide of a nurse at a private hospital in Kuttippuram. The investigation team led by Tirur DySP Premanandakrishnan arrested Abdurahiman (36) of Valanchery Kavumpuram.
Ameena of Kothamangalam committed suicide on July 12 after consuming overdose of pills. Ameena, who has been working in this hospital for more than two years, had requested an experience certificate for another job, but the general manager did not grant it, citing various reasons.
Her family told the investigation team that she committed suicide due to mental agony. Based on this, Abdurahiman was taken into custody from his relative's house in Kuttippala near Kalpakanchery on Saturday. Various political parties and organizations had marched to the hospital, alleging that Abdurahiman's mental harassment was the reason for her suicide and protested for the delay in her arrest.
The hospital management had suspended Abdurahiman the very next day of Ameena's death. After her suicide, Abdurahiman was hiding in his relatives’ houses. The accused was arrested by an investigation team led by Tirur DySP, formed on the directions of district police chief R Viswanath.
