KOTTAYAM: A major theft has been reported at the quarters located at the Rubber Board headquarters in Puthuppally. The theft took place at residential quarters meant for Rubber Board employees. About 75 sovereigns of gold were stolen. No one was present in the quarters at the time of the incident. Police suspect that a gang from northern India may be behind the theft.

It is believed that the robbery was carefully planned after observing the quarters, including the time when no one was present.

Following the information, the Kottayam East Police and a dog squad reached the spot and carried out an inspection. The Rubber Board is a central government institution, and its national headquarters is located in Kottayam. The theft occurred at the quarters situated there.

Kottayam District Police Superintendent Shahul Hameed told the media that a North Indian gang is suspected to be behind the robbery. Police are also examining similar theft cases reported recently in the state. He added that investigations are underway to find out whether the accused had any local assistance.
