
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A major theft has been reported in Thiruvananthapuram after house owners went to church for Easter prayers. The incident took place in Karumkulam, where gold and cash worth lakhs were stolen. A total of 17.5 sovereigns of gold and Rs 6.65 lakh in cash were taken.
The theft occurred in two nearby houses. Police have intensified the investigation. Officials from Kanjiramkulam Police said nearby CCTV footage is being examined, and suspicious vehicles are under observation.
The theft took place at the houses of Mini and her neighbour, Bridget in Pulluvila. The accused stole 17.5 sovereigns of gold and Rs 6.65 lakh from Mini’s house. From Bridget’s house, 2 grams of gold and Rs 500 were stolen. According to preliminary findings, the theft happened on Saturday night when the families had gone to church for Easter prayers.
Mini, her husband Patrose, and their children left for church at around 11 PM and returned home at about 2 AM. When they came back, they noticed the kitchen door was open. On checking the bedroom, they found the cupboard broken open and gold and cash missing. The stolen items include three pairs of anklets, a necklace, a chain, three bracelets, a pair of earrings, six rings, two chains, a bangle, and another pair of earrings kept in a different cupboard.
