Man arrested for extorting money after promising to introduce celebrities, 11 mobile phones and 20 ATM cards seized

PAMPADY: A man who extorted money after promising to introduce celebrities to an event management firm was arrested by Pampady police. The arrested has been identified as Hajilath M Hakim (46) of Thrissur's Pazhayannur. He allegedly extorted Rs 64,000 from a Kothala native man after contacting him via WhatsApp call and promising to introduce him to celebrities. After the man lodged a complaint, the Pampady police registered a case and arrested him from Coimbatore. He has been remanded.

About 11 mobile phones, 20 SIM cards, more than 20 ATM cards, passbooks of various banks, cheques, 115 grams of gold jewellery, seals with various names and RC books of vehicles were recovered from him.

He used to travel around in a luxury car. The accused was arrested under the leadership of Pampady station SHO Suvarna Kumar. There is also a case against him for creating a fake account in the name of a woman on Facebook and extorting money from several persons in Kerala and the Middle East by offering them membership in a 'friendship club'.
