THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned scholar and head of Narayana Gurukula Foundation Guru Muni Narayana Prasad (87) passed away. He died while undergoing treatment at the private medical college in Venjaramoodu early Saturday morning at 3.55 am.


He was admitted to the medical college the other day after suffering from heart ailments. Prior to that, he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Sivagiri Sree Narayana Medical Mission Hospital for a week.


Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner Guru Muni Narayana Prasad was honored by the country with the Padma Shri in 2024. Born on December 9, 1938, Guru Muni Narayana Prasad joined Narayana Gurukula in 1963 while working as a civil engineer in the public works department. He became a disciple of Nataraja Guru, a disciple of Sree Narayana Guru, at the Gurukula in Varkala.


He became the president of Narayana Gurukula in 1999. He used to travel to America, Europe, and Asian countries as a lecturer and visiting professor. He has authored more than 130 books in Malayalam and English on topics such as Indian philosophy and Vedanta. Many of these have been translated into Hindi and Assamese.
