THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman who married ten men in different districts after giving online matrimonial ads and went absconding has been arrested. Reshma, a native of Kanjiramattom in Ernakulam and mother of a two-year-old child, was caught. Reshma, who was preparing for her wedding and was going to the auditorium yesterday morning, was dramatically arrested by the Aryanad police on the complaint of her fiancé, a panchayat member.
Police said that Reshma had come to the wedding with the panchayat member by deceiving the man she had married 45 days ago and that she had planned to marry someone else, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, next month. The fraud was uncovered when Reshma's fiancé and a relative checked her bag after becoming suspicious of her behaviour.
Documents of Reshma's previous marriage were found in her bag when Reshma went to a beauty parlour to prepare for the wedding. The panchayat member registered with the group that advertised marriages and received a call on May 29. The woman, who introduced herself as Reshma's mother, gave her phone number to the panchayat member. Reshma and the man then spoke to each other. The two met at a mall in Kottayam on the 4th.
Reshma convinced the panchayat member that she was adopted, that her mother was not interested in her getting married and that she used to harass her. With this, the man assured her that the marriage would take place on the 6th. The panchayat member took Reshma, who reached Vempayam in Thiruvananthapuram at 5am, and made her stay at his friend's house. Meanwhile, he felt that Reshma's behaviour was unusual. He then checked her bag and filed a complaint with the police.
