VARKALA: The Ayroor police have arrested the accused in the case of brutally beating a 45-year-old man and unleashing his aggressive pet dog to bite the victim. The incident happened at Thonippara, Elakamon panchayat. The accused has been identified as Sanal (36), a native of Thonippara, Ayroor. On the evening of May 4, Sanal, who had a previous enmity, attacked Ranjith, a neighbour. Sanal dragged Ranjith, who had tripped on a stone on the road, to the kitchen of the house and beat him with a stick. The complaint is that when Ranjith fell to the ground, he was kicked in the stomach and the pet dog was released to bite him.

Ranjith had also told the police that Sanal had cut him with a sword when he tried to escape and that his right palm was injured when he tried to defend himself. The police have concluded that the attack was caused by a misunderstanding that Ranjith was the one who constantly came to Sanal's house and mocked the accused. Sanal is an accused in several cases, including assault cases. The attack on Ranjith took place when the accused's wife and children were not at home on the day of the incident. Sanal, who had reached Ayroor police station with his wife at night, filed a complaint that Ranjith had attacked him and left. He then went into hiding.
