Murder of Latvian woman in Kovalam: Quantum of sentence to be pronounced today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The quantum of sentence in the murder case of Latvian woman in Kovalam will be pronounced today. The Thiruvananthapuram additional sessions court had on Friday found the accused Umesh and Udaya Kumar guilty in the case.

Thiruvananthapuram First additional sessions court judge K Sanil Kumar will pronounce the sentence. The body of the Latvian woman was found near Kovalam on April 20 in 2018 in an unidentifiable way.

Ilsa, the foreign woman's sister, has been allowed to watch the trial proceedings of the case live online, including witness’ cross examination.

Meantime, the DGP will felicitate the special investigation team who ensured punishment for the accused after conducting a comprehensive investigation. 42 police officers including head of the investigation team ADGP Manoj Abraham, IG P Prakash, DCP B Ajith, ACP J K Dinil and eight scientific officers of the forensic lab will be felicitated.
