Pathanamthitta rape case; five more in custody, five minors among 52 arrested

PATHANAMTHITTA: Five more arrested in case of rape of sports star Dalit student. Sumit (25), R Ranjith (23), Atul Lal (19), P Praveen (20) and Abhijit (26) were arrested. A lookout notice will be issued against the two accused who are abroad as part of the process to arrest them.

A total of 30 cases were registered in four stations in connection with the incident according to the statement of the student. Of these, 19 of the 25 accused in cases registered at Elavumthitta station have been arrested so far, while one accused is in jail in a POCSO case registered by the Pathanamthitta police last year. The accused Abhijit of Malayalapuzha station was arrested from Chennai. On Wednesday afternoon, one of the accused in the case surrendered at the Pathanamthitta police station in the presence of his parents. He is being interrogated in detail. His arrest will be registered on Wednesday night after a medical examination.

Out of the total 60 accused, the number of those arrested has increased to 52. Five of them are minors. District Police Chief VG Vinod Kumar said that all the accused have been identified and the investigation will be completed in time.
