Proofs against Vedan for sexually abusing doctor, police file charge sheet

KOCHI: A charge sheet has been filed against rapper Vedan alias Hirandas Murali in the case of sexually abusing a young doctor on the pretext of marriage. The police filed the charge sheet in the Kakkanad Judicial Magistrate Court. The charge sheet says that there is evidence against Vedan for abusing her on the pretext of marriage.

Vedan did not deny his relationship with the woman in his statement either. However, Vedan argued that he had not promised to marry her. This has also been attached as Vedan's statement in the charge sheet. However, the police are proceeding on the basis that even if this is the statement, the charge of rape will remain. A case has been registered against Vedan under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

The complaint is that he sexually abused her from 2023 to 2025. The police chargesheet is based on the complainant's firm statement that he sexually abused her on the promise of marriage. The police chargesheet says that there is evidence required to prosecute Vedan.

The chargesheet was filed in the Kakkanad Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court the other day. It will now be handed over to the sessions court for trial. The Tripunithura police had also filed a chargesheet against him in the ganja case the other day.
