THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shefeena beaten to death by her brother in Mannanthala, was brutally harassed for three days, said the postmortem report. Shamshad killed his sister Shefeena over her relationship with a youth. The tragic incident happened on Saturday at 7 pm.
Shefeena's skull was fractured in the beating. Her ribs on both sides were broken. It is believed that Shamshad killed his sister by suffocating her to death. There were nail and bite marks all over her body. Her hands were fractured after being kicked. There are also indications in the postmortem that she was beaten and dragged several times.
Shamshad told police that the reason for the murder was his sister's relationship with a youth from Malappuram. The reason for the sudden outburst was that Shamshad saw his sister making a video call with the youth in the apartment on the day of the incident.
Shamshad, an accused in a case in Chempazhanthy Aniyur, had rented a private apartment near the Mannanthala ESAF Bank to escape from the police. Shefeena, a mother of two, had returned home months ago after a fight with her husband.
Shamshad had earlier suspected that the reason for his sister's family problems was her chatting and video calls with another youth. On the day of the incident, the two had an argument over a video call. The ensuing scuffle resulted in the murder.
Her parents, who were in Perumathura, reached Mannanthala after knowing the incident. As soon as they entered the flat, saw Shefeena lying under the bed. When they tried to take her to the hospital, he threatened them. On being informed, the police arrived and took her to the hospital, but her life could not be saved.
When the police arrived, Shamshad and his friend Vyshakh of Chempazhanthy, were in the next room. The police immediately took the two drunk men into custody. The police said Shamshad intended to kill his sister and for that he sought the help of Vyshakh. The two have been remanded.
