KALPETTA: Wayanad police have arrested Palakkad natives who had stolen Rs. 1.5 crore from a Maharashtra native and crossed over to Kerala. The Scorpio in which the group was travelling was stopped last night at Kalpetta Kainatty and the accused were taken into custody.
Palakkad natives Nandakumar (32), Ajithkumar (27), Suresh (47), Vishnu (29), Jinu (31) and Kaladharan (33) were arrested by the Highway Police and Kalpetta Police squad. All those arrested are involved in several criminal cases including robbery, attempt to murder and drug trafficking. They are accused in a case registered at Bunch station in Satara district of Maharashtra.
Orders were given to all police stations under the leadership of District Special Branch DySP MM Abdul Karim based on the information that the accused had entered the Wayanad district. The vehicle was then chased and the gang was surrounded and arrested at Kainatty. Only three and a half lakh rupees were recovered from them. It is suspected that the money was handed over to another gang. The accused were produced before the Kalpetta court and taken to Maharashtra.
They were arrested by a police team comprising Sub-Inspectors Vimalchandran, NV Harishkumar, OS Benny, ASI Mujeeb Rahman, Driver SCPO PM Siddique, and CPO Ebin.
