THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Anil Kant informed the Human Rights Commission that former SI Mridul Kumar of Marayamuttam station is guilty of thrashing a complainant's husband, who was called to the station to resolve the complaint. Mridul Kumar is now the SHO of Vellarada. The DGP's report alleges that Mridul Kumar displayed indiscipline and misbehaved.

Neyyatinkara DySP's report said that such an incident had not happened before. Following this, the investigation department of the commission directly probed the incident. The DGP's report came after the investigation found that the SI committed serious abuse of power. The complainant is Vineesh, a resident of Kottakal in Anavoor.

The incident took place on July 15, 2020 in the afternoon. During the examination conducted at the Neyyatinkara General Hospital on the same day, the doctors recorded that the SI and two policemen had beaten him up. The doctor recorded that he was punched in the left side of his back. He also sought treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

The commission rejected the wife's statement that the SI had not beaten the complainant. The statement could have been due to pressure from the police officials. With this, the DGP informed the commission that the Special Branch DySP found that there was indiscipline on the part of the SI. A departmental inquiry has been directed to C-Branch DYSP. Commission Chairman Justice Anthony Dominic directed the Thiruvananthapuram Rural (C Branch) DySP to complete the investigation and disciplinary proceedings immediately.
