THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two persons were arrested by the police in a major anti-marcotics crackdown near a major hospital in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. The arrested men have been identified as Muhammed Siyad (29) and Shafeer (34), both hailing from Kannur. The Medical College Police recovered small packets used for cannabis trade as well as equipment purchased for drug use. Approximately 25 grams of MDMA and nearly one kilogram of cannabis were seized. Upon realizing the police were approaching, the accused had hidden the narcotics inside the toilet flush tank.
The operation comes as part of a statewide intensification of anti-narcotic efforts. Under Operation D-Hunt, police conducted a special drive across the state yesterday, during which 1,822 individuals suspected of involvement in drug sales were inspected. As a result, 72 cases were registered, and 73 individuals were arrested for possession of various banned narcotics. Among the drugs seized were 0.06385 kilograms of MDMA, 10.0524 kilograms of cannabis, and 46 cannabis-laced beedis. The objective of the operation was to identify and take strict legal action against those involved in the storage and distribution of illegal drugs.
To support these efforts, a 24/7 Anti-Narcotics Control Room (Phone: 9497927797) has been established to receive information from the public regarding drug-related activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. As part of the strengthened anti-drug measures, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Cell and NDPS Coordination Cell are operating under the direct supervision of the ADGP (Law and Order) at the state level. Additionally, regional-level Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Cells are functioning across various police ranges to support these operations.
