Tarnished CPM's reputation by snatching elderly woman's gold chain: CPM councillor PP Rajesh expelled from party, arrested

KANNUR: CPM municipal councillor arrested in connection with the case of snatching an elderly woman's gold necklace in Koothuparamba and fleeing. The arrested thief is PP Rajesh. Rajesh was a member of the CPM Koothuparamba East local committee and the councillor of the fourth ward. The CPM expelled him. The district secretary announced that action has been taken against Rajesh for acting in a way that tarnished the party's reputation. Rajesh stole a one-and-a-half-sovereign necklace from P Janaki of Kunnummal House in Kaniyarkunnu on Thursday around 12:30 pm.

A man wearing a helmet came on a scooter and snatched Janaki's necklace when she was cutting fish near her house. A piece of the necklace broke off during the scuffle and remained in Janaki's hands. The accused had escaped by the time the locals arrived after hearing the commotion.

Police obtained more information about the thief through the investigation, focusing on CCTV. An image of a man wearing a black shirt and pants riding a scooter with his number plate hidden was obtained. An investigation focused on CCTV footage from multiple locations revealed that the thief was Rajesh.
